IIn the past six months, there has been a dramatic surge in lawsuits brought in Miami Federal Court against retailers claiming that a company’s website violates the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The plaintiff, often a visually impaired individual who uses the website with the aid of assistive technology, alleges he is being denied access to the business’s goods and services due to an inaccessible website. Because these lawsuits target traditional brick-and-mortar businesses that also have an on-line presence, retailers are particularly vulnerable.
Recently FRF hosted an informational webinar to help explain the issue for members and answer any questions business owners may have. This presentation, from experienced panelists and attorneys Nicole Sieb Smith and Jacey Kaps from FRF Chairman’s Circle members Rumberger, Kirk & Caldwell, will discuss proactive steps retailers can take to avoid such claims and at the same time reach more disabled customers through their websites. We hope you find this video helpful as you determine what steps to take to protect your business.
