Tallahassee, FL – Governor Ron DeSantis signed on Friday Senate Bill 1534, Retail Theft, by Senator Jim Boyd and Representative Chuck Clemons into Florida law.

The new statute defines and applies third-degree and second-degree felonies for individuals or those in consort with one or more persons who commit two or occurring in a limited period of time in various merchant locations.

"This measure will protect Floridians and Florida retailers by curtailing criminal activity in stores and holding thieves accountable for their actions," said Scott Shalley, president and CEO of the Florida Retail Federation. "We are grateful for the support of Governor DeSantis for signing SB 1534 into law and for the leadership of Attorney General Ashley Moody, Senator Jim Boyd and Representative Chuck Clemons to crack down on organized retail crime in Florida."
